Water Wise Front Yard

A sustainable & native California garden replaces water thirsty lawn

BEFORE + AFTER.jpg

As is the case with many residents of California, the owners of this home in Sacramento were required to let their lush green lawn turn brown during the historic drought of 2016. Committed to creating a sustainable front garden, the owners of this home wanted to create a welcoming entry that utilized native plantings that challenged the traditional lawn.

Given these conditions, our designer created a contemporary entry walkway which aligned with the owner’s aesthetic and enticed visitors to the front door through a selection of wispy ornamental California grasses that come alive in the regional Delta Breeze. A new front patio was introduced upon request to create a space for the owners to enjoy a warm summer evening and greet their guests.

"A friend of ours had used Think Outside for their backyard landscape remodel; my husband and I were so impressed with the results that we ended up using the service for our own front yard.

Our designer worked with us to develop just the right mix of elements within our price range. He was very thoughtful in his design ideas, with a very appealing appreciation for natural beauty, which we found helpful in creating a native garden that minimizes water usage. Our Designer also understood that we have absolutely no green thumb, so maintenance for the landscaping is minimal."
