Mission Viejo Residence
Located in the hills of Mission Viejo, much of the rear yard of this property is nonpractical due to steep slope conditions. This left the owner and designer a narrow space to work with. Privacy was a concern for the clients who felt that open views from the neighbors limited how often they used the space. The main wish of the clients was to increase usable living space by a creating private outdoor living and dining space to entertain and enjoy the warm coastal evenings.
The Think Outside Design Designer in this case created two alternative concepts turning the unused existing garden into an outdoor extension of the home. Both options utilized native plantings which created privacy from neighbors and introduced a greater connection between the garden and the surrounding landscape.
In this case, the clients have decided to move forward with the second option which provided more space for meal prep and the open flow would support large family events the owners plan to host in their new garden. We can’t wait to see how this one turns out!
Option 1: The first concept utilized and built upon the existing patio, creating a soft planted separation between the outdoor kitchen and dining space and the outdoor living room.
Option 2: The second option eliminated the existing patio creating room for a larger flowing and connected space.
